Podcasts
I find listening to podcasts a good way to keep up to date with all things endurance sports. My favourite ones at present are as follows:
- That Triathlon Show presented by www.scientifictriathlon.com presented by Mikael Eriksson. It covers topics relating to all endurance events. It has one of the best show notes around on the podcast app and even better when you go to the website. Its main format is interviews with coaches scientists and athletes but also take Q&A from listeners. It has been running for many years now and has a vast range of topics which are still relevant today. If you only listen to one this would be the one I'd recommend.
- The Training Science Podcast presented by Prof Paul Laursen and Martin Buchheit. This is a new podcast and it also is presented in Youtube video format which adds a bit to the standard audio format. The first three podcasts focused on their philosophy of HIIT training which is described in great detail in their weighty book published a couple of years ago. They are now moving on to guest chats which go into practical applications and current sporting issues. Sports include all Endurance sports as well as team sports. Latest guest was Alastair Brownlee which includes a section on the up coming Sub7- Ironman attempt involving Alasdair and Kristian Blummenfelt and the Sub 8 attempt for women involving Lucy Charles-Barclay and Nicola Spirig. A similar event mimicking the Breaking 2 for the mens marathon planned for later this year. Website: https://hiitscience.com
- The Pacey Performance Podcast presented by Robert Pacey it covers a wide range of topics related to endurance and team sports. Many podcasts look at Strength and conditioning and has a wide range of guests. Website: https://paceyperformancepodcast.podbean.com
- On Coaching with Magness & Marcus presented by Steve Magness and Jon Marcus who are American pair of coaches who discuss their theory of coaching and refer back to the history of coaching and how it applies today. They also introduce you to new ideas but always referring back to how it was done in the past. You may not always agree with their thoughts but they do make you think. They have their own style of presenting their ideas which is presented in a very "American style" which may not be everyones cup of tea. Website: www.scienceofrunning.com
- The Real Science of Sport Podcast presented by Prof Ross Tucker from South Africa. Covers a wide range of sport topics including many controversial topics including Transgender issues, Supershoes, Doping and other cheating, Covid. It normally takes the form of a discussion with the editor of the podcast Mike Finch. Ross Tucker has recently taken particular interest in the move to reduce head and spinal injuries in Rugby by modifying the tackle laws. Website: https://shows.acast.com/realscienceofsport
- Koop Cast- Ultra Training Banter As the name suggest this focuses on Ultra running and is presented by Jason Koop who is the author of Training Essentials for Ultra running of which a revised edition has recently been published. It however also is relevant for any endurance sport. Jason can also be found on Twitter @jasonkoop.
- Tartan Running Shorts presented by Tom Brian and Kyle Greig cover running nearer to home and speak to well kent faces and voices that relate more to the local running community. Website: m.soundcloud.com/user-222995085 and tartanrunningshorts.com
